SmartNews September | Building Brazil's CNC Machining Future
September 2011
Frequent problems in machining such as inaccuracy and machine vibration are often caused by the machine parameters not being optimized due lack of uniformity in machine parameters. Unless the operator has previous experience using a servo driven CNC, these kinds of mistakes are inevitable. The root of the problem, as Dr. Ferrer of Brazil has found, is a lack of CNC equipment for training purposes. Most factory CNC machines don't allow users to interact with the machine and learn in a dynamic, low-pressure, hands-on environment.
With the help of Hontech LTDA, Animatics' Brazilian distributor, Prof. Jorge Antonio Giles Ferrer Dr. Eng. and his assistants Eduardo Moreno and Carlos Eduardo de Almeida Brito are developing a technical tool for teaching students machine tool path control in a CNC system driven by integrated SmartMotor™ servos.

The kit didático para o ensino da tecnologia CNC (teaching kit for CNC technology) is being developed for the SENAI (National Service for Industrial Training) Schools in São Paulo, Brazil. This specific campus is a manufacturing automation center that develops and offers technical undergraduate and graduate courses in mechatronics.
The CNC teaching tool is built with both mechanical and electronic elements similar to those of an industrial servo-driven CNC machine. The integrated SmartMotor, capable of contouring mode, cubic spline interpolation between data points and more, lends an advantage to students preparing for the technology of the future which promises to be more compact, more integrated and more capable.
"We are very excited that Hontech could take what they learned at Animatics' Distributor Training to create such a unique training tool and educational opportunity in Brazil," said Robert Bigler, Founder and Chief Engineer at Animatics. "Animatics was born out of passion and innovation, and it is a pleasure to see that spark continue through Hontech and the SENAI schools."
