TOPIC: Can I/O connect to +/-5V analog signal?

Can I/O connect to +/-5V analog signal? 2 months 3 weeks ago #2429

Hi, I am Jerry come from China. There is an application of smartmotor need to collect torque value from torque transducer. But the output of torque transducer is -5V to +5V, the I/O of smartmotor (0-5V) can connect to torque transducer directly? is there any risk would break the I/Os? Looking forward your reply and thank you very much.

Jerry,

You will need to use an analog isolator to convert to 0-+5V. Red Lion has one.

You must stay within the normal TTL limits. This is 0-5VDC. You will damage the I/O port if you apply -5VDC (with respect to pin 13 signal ground). You would need to buy a converter that will take your plus/minus signal and change it to 0-5VDC. Devices like this are available from Red Lion Controls and other vendors.
Can you tell us the vendor and model number of your torque transducer?

Hi csearcy. Thank you very much for your advice. the transducer is our local brand, there is only Chinese version specification, vender: Ligent, model:L400-A5. link: en.ligentcn.com/a/chanpinzhanshi/Customized_Product/.

Actually we just need to check torque difference between OK and broken spring when motor rotate spring. The gear box ratio is 28:1, but the spring max torque only 10lbf.inch. so no load and load condition is very similar. So we have to add a torque transducer.

You will have to check the data sheets to find the one that works for your needs: www.redlion.net/products/industrial-auto...ams-universal-inputs
