I'm trying to use two SM1720M as spool tensioners for spools of filament which are paid out to a machine. I'm wondering if there is any way to achieve a predictable tension on the spool, without actually measuring the tension of the filament?
My preferred set up is a host PC which polls the speed of the motors, and sends back a torque value based on that speed. So far I haven't been able to model the what that torque value should be though. For example it was surprise to me that the motors seem to have significant torque when run in reverse at higher RPMs, even when T=0 in torque mode.
Are there any simple formulas that might calculate an approximate shaft torque, given the T value and the motor speed?
Any tips would be appreciated.
