                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[Yes.  That is correct.  A sensor would allow you to do a "homing routine" that would establish the origin of the encoder. O=0 will reset the encoder position to a value of 0 after the sensor has been found.  Usually, it is best to do a velocity mode move to the switch to "find" it.  Then you may want to move off the sensor at a slow speed to find when the sensor "edge".  When the sensor changes states, you should stop the motor with an "S" (Stop Immediately) command before using the O=0 command.]]></content:encoded>

                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[A homing routine is required for the normal "incremental encoders".  You can home to a switch or to a hard stop.

If your application won't allow you to re-home after a power loss, then you would need to use our SM23165MT-FB01 or SM34165MT-FB01 as they have a battery backed "absolute" encoder that only needs to be homed once.  After the initial home, the motor will remember it's position even after a power loss.]]></content:encoded>
