Admittedly, I'm getting a bit jumpy about the communication troubles with these things. There's quite a bit of such on the forum... I want my machine to be rock solid when I'm done. It came to me with this setup and it seems like a nice solution - if it works. But I don't want frequent communication troubles over the next 10 years...
Yes, it does seem like the Wizard is working to a certain extent. What program is currently in the motors? You said the LED switches from red to green- does that happen every time?
Program in motors - I don't know. I have copies of the programs that were supposed to have been in the machines 13 motors, but there has been some motor switching around, so that I don't know which program is in this one.
LED red to green - Yes, happens every time I tried it.
Another update - I obtained a USB to RS485 cord to try talking that way. It seems to find the 11 motors on the string, but not be able to talk to them. Playground will actually say it "Connects" but doesn't seem to have any control of the motor.
Wonder how I could upload to you a copy of a program that is PROBABLY in this motor.
OK, I think I figured out that 485 is NOT actually talking successfully to the motors.
Please call the tech support number: 888-356-0357. If sent to voicemail, leave your phone # and ask for Chuck Searcy to return your call.
Just to post this for all to read - After hours of troubleshooting and time on phone with Chuck, I eventually found the ground reference connection for RS232 was not getting through to the motor. So the motor's ground reference was not effective for the motor to read the RS232 signals. So even though the loop-back test should a good circle, it did not prove the ground reference at the motor. Lesson for all: Make sure the ground reference is healthy all the way to the end motor!
Very useful post Thanks
