I'd like to know how many poles are present in different SmartMotor models. Is this information available anywhere?

I think I've been able to figure out some by feel as I rotate the motor shaft:
SM34165DT: 8 poles?
SM23165D/DT: 24 poles?
SM17205D: ?? (too subtle for me to determine)

This info would be helpful to me, as I'm trying to better understand how static torque varies subtly depending on shaft relationship to the pole positions.

They are all 8 pole.

Hmm. Maybe I'm asking the wrong question then.

On my SM23165D/DT motors, there seem to be 24 distinct 'detents' as I rotate the shaft through 360 degrees... that's the part I care about, as I find my static torque output depends highly on where I am relative to these detents.

On my SM17205D, the detents are so subtle I can't easily count them. This could work to my advantage perhaps. Any idea how many there should be?

Thanks!

Detents and pole count don't match. Slots do by a ratio. The 17 has a long rotor (relative to diameter) and skewed stator to rotor difference across that length. So it will show hardly any detents. the 23 you speak of is a high torque strong magnet version with a very short rotor relative to its diameter. But when you run it closed loop and especially in sine commutation, there is no detent.
