Can I replace my SM23165D-CDS motor with an SM23165D-CDS7 motor? What are the differences, if any?

Yes, -CDS7 is an improvement on –CDS that is backwards compatible. Both motors have the same exact functionality in regards to CANopen. The main difference is that CDS7 has the CAN_H/L pins on both connectors. CDS only has the CAN_H/L pins on the 15 pin connector. The big advantage here is that now CDS7 motors have power, RS-232, and CANopen all on one connector and needs only one cable.

On non CDS7 motors, pins 1 and 2 on the 7w2 connector are 5V and I/0 6. As long as the application does not require this pins, CDS7 is backwards compatible.
